It is Taekwondo and you can find out more about it here.
So you want to know more about who we are and why are we running a martial arts school. Well... here it is... as we see it...
Mr. Adam Spicar
“It all began with watching martial arts movies when I was a kid. The passion has been going on strong for years and it’s just getting stronger by the day.
I was first introduced to martial arts when I joined the army at the age of 20. After I finished my training I became a policeman.
In February of 2003 I met Mr. Sid Nelson, who introduced me to Taekwondo martial art and Taekwondo America (TA), a national organization with member schools all around the country and standardized and unified curriculum.
I earned my Black Belt in 2005. Two years passed, devoted to teaching, training, self-improvement, and after a vigorous testing by the TA Board of Examiners in Rome, Georgia, I attained the rank of Senior Certified Instructor with Taekwondo America in June, 2007.
One particular time period will be forever instilled in my memory. And that was a very personal 4 months training with my instructor for his karate demonstration and promotion to 7th Degree Black Belt in front of about 2000 people in September, 2006, in Charlotte, North Carolina. You can see a video from this fantastic karate demonstration in the video section.
Throughout my being with TA I competed in over 15 tournaments spanning the states of Texas, Ohio, Kentucky, Indiana, Tennessee and North Carolina. In 2004 I became a national champion and placed 1st in both forms and continuous sparring competition. I tried to repeat the success again at national tournaments in 2006 and 2007. I placed 1st in forms competition and 2nd in continuous sparring in 2006 and 1st in forms in 2007. I’m still active in competition.
After getting a “green light” from my instructor, Mr. Nelson, and obtaining a permission, certification and a license from Taekwondo America I and Ms. Stolkova have decided to pursue our love of karate even further by passing our knowledge to our own students.
And therefore... Welcome Spicar’s Martial Arts Karate Center and Taekwondo America in Southlake, Texas!”
Ms. Lucie Stolkova
“My love for sports goes back to elementary and middle school where I was one of the few students who actually liked PE classes. When I was 15 years old I started doing aerobic. 1 hour, 3x a week for 3 years. It was a place I could all let it out, have fun and see friends.
When I relocated to Kentucky I wanted to do something different, something fresh and because I was in my twenties I was also looking for an activity what would make me feel more confident and safe.
So I started karate with Mr. Nelson. And it was hard! First year was difficult. Second year was even harder but I couldn’t leave all my new friends. I couldn’t leave Mr. Nelson who was trying his best to encourage me and help me progress rank by rank. I couldn’t do it to myself. I was intrigued more and more about how I was getting stronger, confident and gaining respect not only among my friends, my fellow students but also throughout the whole organization.
Earning a Black Belt in 2005 was definitely a lifetime achievement. And I kept going and going. I found out that passing my experience to other students makes me feel great and that I’m fulfilling my childhood dream of being a teacher. So I have decided to pursue this dream with my whole heart. In June, 2007, I made that dream come true by becoming a Senior Certified Instructor with Taekwondo America.
I am a two time national champion in both forms competition and continuous sparring and I still compete to this day.
My instructor, Mr. Sid Nelson, TA organization, and the art of Taekwondo changed the course of my life in such a way that I have decided to pursue my career in being a full time karate instructor.
And so... Welcome to Spicar’s Martial Arts Karate Center and Taekwondo America in Southlake, TX!”
